HSDPA & HSUPA (3GPP Rel. 5 & 6) are enhancing the UMTS air interface throughput, peak data rates & efficiency. The participant will be informed about their principles, network & protocol modifications and their physical channels. Their evolution beyond Rel. 6, the so-called HSPA+, will be discussed. Several 3GP Release 7, 8 & 9 features, pushing the HSPA+ peak data rates step by step towards 4G requirements, improving the spectrum efficiency, enabling RT over IP services and leading towards a flat UMTS network architecture are explained. |
